Apprenticeships and e2e

If full-time education is not for you then there are some excellent opportunities through work based learning routes.  Work Based Learning is a long-term approach to work experience where you will learn and develop the essential skills required for a specific job.  A popular choice by young people is through Apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are where you work for a company, get to learn on the job, gain a qualification and earn money at the same time. You can do Apprenticeships in a wide range of job areas such as construction, ICT, hairdressing, catering and hospitality to name a few. You will get the right skills needed to help you with your career progression.

There are two levels of Apprenticeships;

1. Apprenticeship - You gain a qualification up to an NVQ Level 2 and it will help you move onto an Advanced Apprenticeship
2. Advanced Apprenticeship -  You will work towards an NVQ Level 3 and it could help you get onto a Foundation Degree

Entry to Employment (e2e)

The programme e2e is for 16-18 year olds and lets you get the skills and experience needed to do well in learning, training and work.

  • You will be able to try out different work areas to help you decide what you like and dislike
  • You will get a qualification up to NVQ Level 1
  • It will help you move onto an Apprenticeship
  • You will develop personal and social skills

The e2e programme is not 'time-bound', it is based on the needs of each individual. You may need relatively short periods of time to prepare for entry to an Apprenticeship, employment, or course.  For more information speak to a Personal Adviser at the Barnsley Connexions Centre or your school.
