Will I get all the options I choose?

• School have a massive task in accommodating a full year 9 group into the    options they choose (some larger school have more than 200 pupils). Some subject areas are far more competitive than others but where possible you will get what you ask for.
• However, some options will depend on your current academic level. Level 1 courses will be open to young people who are maybe less academic and level 2 will be open to those who are possibly more academic.
• Be aware that areas such as Construction Crafts and Hairdressing are extremely competitive during year 9 options and in year 11 when choosing college courses. Many young people are disappointed each year because college can only accommodate so many young people. That’s why it is important to have back-up plans in place.
• Be aware that it is not essential to have taken a vocational option in year 9 (such as Construction or Hairdressing) when applying for college courses in year 11. These areas will consider broader qualifications, particularly GCSE (with a large emphasis on Math’s and English and sometimes Science)
