Individual Learning Plans (ILP)
What is an Individual Learning Plan?
The ILP is a personal planning and review document. It is usually completed by you after discussion with an adult adviser such as a teacher, tutor or personal adviser.
You now have more choice than ever in terms of subjects and qualifications you can take up. To help you make good choices you will start to build your ILP from Year 9 onwards. This will be followed by review meetings with your adult adviser.
How can an ILP help you?
It can help you to think about your strengths and weaknesses, set targets and agree action steps relating to potential learning and career choices. As you change and develop it is important that you also record your progress and set new targets and goals to help you manage your career and make the most of all your learning opportunities.
Schools and colleges use a range of ILP formats, including some which are online (e.g. Plan-IT) and others which are paper based. They all help you plan for the future.
If you need to find out more about ILPs speak to your tutor, who will explain to you how it will work in your school/college.
