Stop! Think
• Start thinking about the different job areas you would like to work in and
the progression routes you can take.
• Explore all your options such as staying on at school/college, work based
learning or getting a job.
• Try to find a job with learning attached.
• Be prepared to travel to work as this will create more job opportunities.
Staying on in education or training will help you get your dream job with
a good salary attached, as well as learning new skills along the way.
Learning is for everyone and will help improve your job opportunities.
Remember, not everyone gets their preferred first choice. For example every
year many young people apply for construction but often there are not enough
employers who can offer the required on-the-job training. Make sure you have
a back up plan! Don’t let these opportunities pass you by, act now!
This information pack will raise your awareness about these industries and the
range of jobs within each of them, helping you to make the right career choice
when leaving school.
My Action Plan...
• When you think about what you want to do in the future, consider what you
are good at and what you enjoy.
• Read the information sheets.
• Show your parents/carers the information.
• Do your own research.
• Use the Careers Library in school to find out more information.
• Visit Kudos/KeyClips to find out more information about the jobs available.
• Talk to your teachers to find out more about the courses you can study in school.
• Start to think about work experience and your options.
• Speak to your Personal Adviser in school or at your local Connexions Centre.
