Zoe

Name: Zoe Gilberthorpe
Age: 18
Primary School: Darfield Church of England
Secondary School: Darfield Foulstone
College: Barnsley College

Zoe has been an active part of the Aim Higher Ambassador Project for over a year. She achieved 9 GCSEs A-C, a half GCSE in IT and a further GCSE grade D. Zoe studied AS Level Law, Business, English Language and Accounts. She then progressed onto a 2 year BTEC National Diploma in Business. Her future plans are to go to Sheffield Hallam University to study Business and Finance.

As an Ambassador Zoe has took part in two very successful projects. With a group of Ambassadors she ran sessions in a local secondary school talking about college life. The sessions ran for 6 weeks and included information about finance, college work, stereotypical views and other issues. The feedback from the project has been very positive, a member of staff stated, "I personally think the sessions have worked well for all the students who took part. They have gone away with a much better understanding of college and all that is connected with the procedures for applying and getting started."

She has also taken part in the "Playing for Success" programme held at Barnsley FC. She was involved in mentoring children aged 8-12, listening to them read or helping with homework. She has also been involved in enrolment days at Barnsley College.
